Bad Company 2 hits iDevices

Remember the news Bad Company 24/7 revealed in October; how Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was coming to Apple's iDevices? Now, we can confirm that this is the case! DICE have confirmed that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is available for your Apple iDevice. The game includes a fully-fledged campaign and multiplayer, meaning that it is quite the entertainment package! How could you sweeten the deal? By making it available for one US dollar during a sale? Yeah, that would sweeten the deal. At the time of posting, Bad Company 2 is in first place on the list for 'Paid Apps'.

From the screenshots shown by Apple, the game appears to have some extremely impressive visuals considering it is running on an iPhone 4. Visuals look crisp and clear, and the game looks like it could be very entertaining to play. Plus, at the price you'll currently be paying, it really is an offer you can't refuse. Operation Hastings confirmed

DICE have released some tantalising information about a fifth map for their upcoming Bad Company 2: Vietnam expansion. The map is a remake from Battlefield: Vietnam, and is entitled 'Operation Hastings'. However, the new map is not available initially. Rather, DICE have decided to have the community work together to achieve a goal. The scape of this goal is enormous, however, and will likely take quite some time to fulfil. So, ready to find out how to earn this new map? Read on.

You need to perform 69,000,000 Team Actions, alongside the rest of the community. That is not a typo. 69,000,000. Sixty-nine million. These actions consist of:

  • Revive: When using the 'Medic' class, revive downed team mates.
  • Resupply: When playing as an 'Assault' class, give team mates ammo by dropping an ammo crate.
  • Heal: When playing as a 'Medic', toss a health box on the ground and heal up a wounded comrade.
  • Spot: When playing as any class, 'spot' a team mate. The button used to do so varies between console, though on console, the 'Back' or 'Select button is used'.
  • Repair: When a friendly vehicle is damaged, the Engineer should repair it, in order to receive this Team Action.

Team Actions are counted from December 21st 2010 onwards. To make this enormous task easier, Team Actions are counted across all three platforms and both Bad Company 2, as well as Vietnam. However, the task itself is still incredibly large, and the community must complete it to experience the fifth map online. You may remember that Battlefield 1943 used the same 'community challenge' system. However, the challenge was not as large - to earn the fifth map in 1943, the community was tasked with achieving 43,000,000 kills.

Now, who's up for getting to 69,000,000 Team Actions? It's definitely not going to be easy to do, but the speed at which the community may achieve this goal could be surprising. Even DICE were apparently surprised at the speed the community earned 'Coral Sea' in Battlefield 1943. In fact, this might be the reason the challenge is so difficult - how long will it take? Do your bit in the fight for 'Operation Hastings', and start playing Bad Company 2: Vietnam when it releases on December 21st, on Xbox LIVE and the PSN Store. PC players get to enjoy the Vietnam DLC prematurely, on the 18th, though they should note that their Team Actions will not be counted until the 21st.

More information on Harvest Day

DICE have released further information on the infamous 'Harvest Day' map, returning from Battlefield: Bad Company in VIP Map Pack 7 (check out this article for more info on VIP Pack 7). Harvest Day was one of the biggest and most popular maps in the original game, and DICE are keen to please their community by bringing the map back to Bad Company 2 in a manner everyone will be sure to appreciate.

Russian soldier speeds across fields in new 'Harvest Day' map'Harvest Day 2.0', as it has been nicknamed by DICE, is soon to be releasing in their critically acclaimed first person shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company 2. As expected, the map has been graphically enhanced to take full advantage of the upgraded Frostbite 2.0 engine. The newer engine will allow players to take buildings down completely, unlike in the original title, where buildings remained standing regardless of the damage they had sustained. The redesigned map is heavily vehicle oriented, with heavy tanks, quads, and other vehicles present.

The redesigned map is available in all modes, but according to the designers, is mostly Conquest oriented. The map retains the same elements that made it so overwhelmingly popular in the past, though flag locations have been changed into a more 'diamond' shape, in order to make the most use of the available landscape. Harvest Day looks set to become extremely popular in Bad Company 2, despite being over two years old now. Quite how the map will play out with the new engine remains to be seen, but from the available screenshots DICE have published, it looks fantastic! Like all the preceding map packs, VIP Pack 7 is free on PC, and for VIP players on Xbox LIVE and the Playstation Network. Players who are not VIPs may purchase VIP access for their game from either the Xbox LIVE Marketplace, or the Playstation Network's Store. All you have to do is decide what map you're going to play on first!

Map Pack 7 coming soon

Somehow, incredibly, DICE have found the time to support Battlefield: Bad Company 2 despite playing roles in Medal of Honor's online development, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit's revitalisation, and the upcoming Vietnam expansion for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. DICE have decided it's time to bring some entirely new flavor to the Bad Company 2 experience, and what way to do it than by having some fan favorites from the original Bad Company return? The pack will contain the following maps:

  • Oasis (Battlefield: Bad Company)
  • Harvest Day (Battlefield: Bad Company)
  • Cold War (Battlefield: Bad Company 2 campaign)
  • Heavy Metal (Battlefield: Bad Company 2 campaign)

Oasis and Harvest Day were, undoubtedly, the two most popular maps from the original Bad Company, when it released over two years ago. Even now, they are the maps with the most dedicated community remaining around them. DICE have confirmed that the maps will be upgraded to take advantage of the newer Frostbite 2.0 engine, as well as other adjustments. According to DICE's Cristian Pavel, Oasis has been tweaked in some areas, with the urban landscape being raised a few feet. It is apparently more similar to the urban area in Arica Harbor, and feels less 'flat'.

It appears the Russians are well-prepared, what with those tanks.Heavy Metal is one of, if not, the largest maps available in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The map is taken directly from the mission of the same name, and is restricted to the area where players combat Russian T90 tanks aboard American M1 Abrams. Regretfully however, the map is Conquest exclusive, so Rush players may need to try out the mode to experience the new surroundings.

Battlefield Play4Free

First of all, you might be wondering what on earth this is.

Battlefield Play4Free is a new game in the Battlefield franchise, and as the name suggests, it is free to play. However, it is not yet completed and is yet to be finished. Due to its free-to-play nature, the game could be considered a successor to Battlefield: Heroes, which was the first game released under EA's 'Free to Play' scheme.

The game appears to use a currency system, similarly to Battlefield: Heroes and the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops. The in-game currency should allow players to purchase weaponry and equipment for improving their game experience. Much like every other free online game however, you can use real money to buy what you want without having to earn it.

What makes 'Play4Free' so exciting though, is how it intends to work. The game is a hybrid of two critically acclaimed titles: Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 2. The game will use maps from Battlefield 2, such as 'Strike at Karkand', and the class-based system of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. According to information gathered from EA's official news, Heroes is not going to be shut down with the release of 'Play4Free'. Rather, they hope that their community will continue to enjoy both games.

Oh, and did we mention there's a beta available from November 30th? Yeah, really. Download Battlefield: Heroes now, get playing, and win a round. Just the one round, and you're guaranteed a place in the beta. Surely such a sweet deal cannot be passed up on? It appears to be time you signed up for the beta - right here. The news over at the Heroes page is located here. Get moving!
